GREENWOOD, Thomas (1851-1908)
Sheffield 1871-1873
Although he spent only two years working in a public library, he became known, after becoming a successful publisher, as 'The apostle of the library movement'; he then spent much time forwarding the public library cause. His by no means always accurate Free public libraries (1886) appeared in several later editions and grew gradually into The libraries, museums and art galleries year book.
